Its growth since the original game is phenomenal and is heavily based on community feedback in some cases. It's released annually and is published and developed by Electronic Arts. 2006 - FIFA 07

 

The first FIFA Xbox 360 game, it was an iteration of refinement. The team count was lowered in order to increase the focus on the remaining four leagues, as well as the additional national teams. A further expansion of this system allows for a massive overhaul of the player-to-player collision system that takes into account each player's speed, weight and power. Additionally, the goalkeeper has been improved to have better reactions, faster recovery and better positioning.

 

The weather system has also been improved to allow for rain, snow, day, dusk and night matches, dependent on the stadium. Manager mode does not see the weather changes. Again, this is not an exhaustive list, but these are some of the major additions and changes.

 

FIFA 10

 

The latest game to be released, it has less improvements than the previous game, but perhaps more important for some. The Manager mode has been overhauled in many ways. It now shows news about other users' Manager Mode events and an Assistant Manager can be used to look after some of the game's other features, such as the team line up. The Auto-Resolve matches are now based on each team's strength, rather than random, as it was suggested in the past. The football players now improve based on ingame performance rather than the previous manual improvements.

The Madden Curse

Probably the most anticipated xbox game of 2010 is the new Madden. This renowned franchise has been a phenomenon for the past 21 years. Last year was no exception to the Madden curse, and it made it's mark in the very first week of the regular season. Two players made their way onto the cover of Madden 10 for the first time ever. It's a classic matchup that re-lives the drama of Super Bowl 43; Larry Fitzgerald of the Cardinals and Troy Polomalu of the championship Steelers. In the Steelers' first regular season game, and Troy Polomalu's first after being put on the cover of Madden 10, he injured his ankle while blocking a field goal. Without their defensive captain, the Steelers struggled, ceding the AFC North division title to the Bengals.

 

One would imagine teams and players would have learned their lesson by now. Athletes are notoriously superstitious, and next time Madden comes a callin', most would be better off to just decline. Histroy has taught us that the negative effect of being on the Madden cover, for whatever scientific or non-scientific reason, is a real thing.

 

The History of the Madden Curse:

 

2002: Daunte Culpepper, QB, followed up his 2000 NFC championship appearance by leading his team to a 5-11 season, and missed the final 5 games of the season with an injured knee following his fateful appearance on the cover of Madden 2002: he hsan't recovered yet.

 

2003: After being featired as the Madden 03 cover athlete, Rams' running back Marshall Faulk played the whole 2002 season with a naggin ankle problem, and didn't reach his full potential. He failed to rush for 1,000 yards for the first time in 6 years, and the Rams finished the season 7-9. missing the playoffs.

 

2004: For the third year straight, the cover athlete of Madden suffered injury. In 2003, it was QB Mike Vick, who missed the entire season due to preseason injury. Without him, the Falcons went 5-11.

 

2006: Donovan McNabb was honored with a Madden cover appearance after his team made it to the Super Bowl in 2004. The curse struck him next season, and the sports hernai he suffered early in the year caused him to sit out the last 7 games.
